Md Mahfuzur Rahman, 21, the imam of Baitul Falah Jame Mosque at Chhoto Shalghor Dakkhin Parha, admitted to raping the 15-year-old girl in initial interrogation on Saturday, Debidwar Police Station OC Md Johirul Anwar said.
He will be produced in a court on Sunday, the OC said.
Rahman tricked the girl into his room attached with the mosque on Saturday morning before tying her mouth with a towel and raping her, the girl’s father, a rickshaw-van puller, alleged in a case over the incident.
Her mother said the girl had dropped out after completing primary education.
The woman took her daughter to Debidwar Health Complex when she started to bleed after the rape, she said.
A doctor said the girl was given treatment when she was brought to the health complex in a critical condition.
Alam Hazari, a member of the local union council, said he went to the site after hearing that residents of the area caught the imam on rape charges.
“He admitted to the crimes. Later police detained him,” he added.
