Masuma Hadi has pledged to continue protests until justice is delivered for her brother, Sharif Osman Hadi, whose murder remains unresolved.
Speaking on Saturday in Jhalakathi’s Nalchity -- the birthplace of the slain Inqilab Moncho leader, she demanded a swift trial for his killing and vowed that protesters would not return to their homes until justice is served.
Masuma said the platform leaders had repeatedly tried, without success, to meet the interim government to press their demand for justice.
Left with no option, the activists attempted a “peaceful” sit-in outside the State Guest House Jamuna, the chief advisor’s residence, where police carried out what she described as an “unacceptable assault”.
Condemning the police action, she questioned how a credible general election could be held if the administration behaved in such a manner ahead of the polls.
Calling for a fair investigation into the killing under United Nations supervision, she said the vision of building a Bangladesh inspired by Osman Hadi must prevail, rejecting what she termed as subservience to India.
Masuma said voters would respond at the ballot box to any force seeking power by relying on the neighbouring country.
Earlier on Friday afternoon, Inqilab Moncho activists marched towards Jamuna, seeking a UN-backed probe and the trial of those involved in the killing.
Police, however, dispersed the protesters outside the InterContinental Dhaka using water cannons and tear gas shells, resulting in several injuries.
