Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has asked the education minister to look into how traffic congestion in Dhaka during school hours can be resolved.
The premier met with Minister of Education ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon and State Minister of Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj at the Secretariat on Tuesday morning, according to Atiqur Rahman Rumon, additional press secretary to the prime minister.
Confirming the meeting, Rumon said Tarique discussed measures to reduce the gridlock in the capital while considering alternative solutions.
“The prime minister asked the ministry to prepare and present a proposal on the matter,” he added.
Highlighting the scale of the problem, the press aide said: “As an example, about 100 cars sometimes gather in front of a school to pick up 150 students. This creates massive traffic congestion. Students have to rush to reach their educational institutions.”
“The prime minister has advised the minister to find alternative ways to address these problems.”
After the education minister, Energy Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood Tuku and State Minister for Energy Aninda Islam Amit met the prime minister, the additional press secretary said.
Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan also met Tarique.
