Diponker Das, 57, from Sylhet, was shot on Oct 14 when a man came into the G. Corner Food Mart in the 1000 block of Cascade Avenue in Atlanta and confronted him with a gun, police said.

The unidentified man shot Das in the back of the head and took cash and lottery tickets.

Das, who migrated to the US 12 years ago, left his wife and two children, died Friday when his family took him off life support, Channel 2 Action News reported.

"Doctors said that as long as he would be alive, he'd be suffering, so we decided to let him go with dignity and love," Avik Das, the victim's nephew, told local media, Channel 2.

"Das came from behind his shielded area and, at some point, the young man walked up to him and shot him in the head," police Maj. Adam Lee said.

Police have distributed surveillance footage of the person they are seeking.

“Tomorrow,” Avik Das said, “it could happen to somebody else."

Tipsters with knowledge of the case can remain anonymous, and be eligible for rewards of up to $2,000, by contacting Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477, texting information to 274637.

Meanwhile, panic generated in Bangladeshi community in Atlanta after three people were killed by gunmen in last one month and police failed to make an arrest.
