Former Awami League reserved seat lawmaker Sabina Akter Tuhin has fallen ill in the courtroom during the hearing of a sedition case.
She complained of diabetes, heart problems, and blood pressure in the court of Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Moin Uddin Chowdhury on Wednesday.
The case against Tuhin was filed last year on charges of "undermining the interim government and participating in anti-state activities" by joining a Zoom meeting of the “Joy Bangla Brigade”, a pro-Awami League platform.
It was filed on Mar 27 last year by CID Assistant Superintendent of Police Enamul Haque against 73 individuals over allegations of sedition.
After investigation, a chargesheet was submitted on Jul 30 the same year.
The court accepted the chargesheet on Aug 14 and issued arrest warrants.
On Sept 11, a travel ban was imposed on the suspects, followed by an Oct 14 order for publication of notices in newspapers for absconding individuals to appear before the court.
According to the case, several hundred activists of the Awami League, under the banner of “Joy Bangla Brigade”, allegedly joined a Zoom meeting on Dec 19, 2024, led by US Awami League Vice-President Rabbi Alam.
After the latest hearing, the court set Jul 14 for the next hearing on framing charges in the case against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 285 others.
