Eid-ul-Azha prayers have been held at the Gor-e-Shaheed Maidan in Dinajpur, with worshippers praying for the peace and prosperity of Bangladesh.
National Imam Association, Dinajpur President Maulana Matiur Rahman Qasemi led the congregation at 8:30am on Thursday.
Persistent downpours over the preceding few days had left parts of the 9.3-hectare open site waterlogged, casting a shadow of doubt over whether the main Eid assembly could go ahead at the venue.
The municipal authorities, however, quickly drained the pitch and made it fit for prayers as the rain let up on Wednesday, allowing thousands of people to join the congregation in a comfortable and peaceful environment.
Following the prayers, Maulana Matiur offered supplications for national stability and progress, alongside seeking global peace for Muslims.
Syed Jahangir Alam, the lawmaker for Dinajpur-3, joined the gathering alongside the deputy commissioner, the superintendent of police, and citizens from all walks of life.
While the Gor-e-Shaheed Maidan has been hosting Eid assemblies since before independence, the site underwent a massive expansion and received a striking grand minaret in 2016.
Since then, it has served as the venue for the district's main Eid congregation.

The structural centrepiece is a 517-foot-long minaret featuring 52 domes, with the main pulpit rising 55ft high. The expansive layout allows more than 500 people to stand side by side in a single row.
Turnout was slightly lower than in previous years due to the uncertainty caused by the recent stormy weather, but people traveling from distant locations expressed their joy at being part of the massive gathering.
Abdus Sattar, 63, from Rangpur said he has taken part in Eid prayers at this ground about 10 times. “It is difficult to describe the feeling of attending such a large congregation.”
He added that the arrangements were well organised and the prayer was completed peacefully.
The authorities left no stone unturned in ensuring security, deploying police, RAB and plainclothes intelligence operatives to secure the ground.
Security teams also monitored the area from watchtowers and kept the entire field under surveillance using drones.
