The transfer of teachers at government primary schools has been suspended indefinitely, says State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj.
The state minister said the decision was taken to facilitate the postings of 14,000 teachers who are awaiting appointment.
Speaking at a press conference at the Secretariat on Monday, he said: “All transfers have been suspended for the appointment of more than 14,000 teachers. Once the 14,000 appointments are finalised, the transfer process will resume. Then teachers can apply for transfers again.”
“After the appointment of the new teachers, the transfer process will reopen. At that time, it will be decided whether the existing system and policy will continue or a new system will be introduced. Since there may be changes, there should be more discussions on the matter.”
The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has instructed 14,384 candidates recommended for appointment as assistant teachers at government primary schools to join their respective district primary education offices on Oct 1. The ministry has also said that these candidates will be posted to their respective schools on Oct 4.
Earlier, applications for transfers of assistant teachers at government primary schools were submitted and processed online. However, on Jun 21, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education changed the system. Under an order issued that day, committees were formed at the national, divisional, district, Upazila and Thana levels to scrutinise and process teachers’ transfer applications.
The state minister said there is a need to recruit around 34,500 headteachers for government primary schools. He added that discussions are under way with the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) regarding the recruitment.
The state minister also expressed the hope that the midday meal programme would be introduced in all government primary schools across the country from 2027.
