A young man from Sherpur’s Jhenaigati Upazila has been killed in a road accident in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The dead, 21-year-old Md Rony Mia, was the son of Md Abdur Razzaq from Dighirpar village.

He died on Apr 21, and his body is currently being kept at the Al-Hayat Medical Hospital in Saudi Arabia.

His elder brother Md Moniruzzaman filed an application with the Wage Earners' Welfare Board seeking the body’s repatriation on Tuesday.

Rony’s life was marked by a persistent struggle to support his family through overseas employment.

Moniruzzaman, a college lecturer, shared that Rony first went to Saudi Arabia as a food delivery rider in 2024.

He, however, was forced to return home just two months later after being injured in a motorcycle accident.

Undeterred by the previous mishap and burdened by debt, Rony went back to Riyadh in October 2025 on a labour visa for the same job.

Tragically, he met his end in another motorcycle accident on Apr 21.

The family is now grappling with both immense grief and a heavy financial toll.

"We spent about Tk 500,000 to Tk 600,000 for his first trip, but he couldn't earn anything due to his injury. We sent him again by arranging another Tk 400,000. He hadn't managed to repay much of that yet," Moniruzzaman said.

Rony leaves behind his parents, wife, and two young children.

His father Razzaq made a plea to the authorities: "We will never get our son back alive, but I want to bury him with my own hands. I ask for help to bring his body back."
