The Election Commission (EC) has decided to hold the local government union council elections in seven phases, with the first on Nov 12.
The EC led by AMM Nasir Uddin held a meeting on Monday morning. Afterwards, Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah briefed the media on the situation at the Nirbachan Bhaban.
He said, “We have held a preparatory meeting on the local government union council elections. Initially, we have decided to hold the elections in seven phases.”
Some 4,500 union councils will go to the polls in the local government elections.
“The first phase is on Nov 12, the second phase on Dec 13, the third phase is on Dec 30.
The fourth phase is on Jan 17 next year, the fifth phase is on Feb 4 next year, the sixth phase is on Apr 22 and the seventh phase is on May 27.”
The first phase of the union council elections will be held in 80 Upazilas, the election commissioner said.
The EC will officially announce the schedule after it has decided on the timing of the vote.
