Ganosamhati Andolon has released its election manifesto, pledging reforms in sectors such as education, the economy, and public administration to rebuild the country and create a discrimination-free society.
The party promises to ensure citizens’ rights, dignity, and protection, safeguard life and the environment, empower women and secure their political rights, and establish new economic, political, and cultural systems to democratically reconstruct the state from a “fascist” framework.
The manifesto was unveiled at the party’s central office in Dhaka’s Hatirpool by Abul Hasan Rubel, convenor of the party’s central election management committee and its executive coordinator.
Describing the manifesto as not merely an “assortment of promises”, Rubel said: “This is the roadmap for our future politics.”
“We have emphasised establishing a truly democratic system, where not only political rights but also the distribution of resources will follow democratic principles, and through the practise of such a system, corruption will be eliminated and good governance ensured,” he added.
He said that his party focused on securing the rights of workers, farmers, and labourers, and ending discrimination based on class, religion, gender, or ethnicity.
“We have also emphasised transforming Bangladesh’s economy, and developing it into a trillion-dollar economy,” he said.
The manifesto promises to create employment through productive economic transformation, develop agriculture while protecting farmers’ interests, ensure safe and creative development opportunities for all children, and establish universal health coverage.
The party also promises to prioritise women’s political rights and empowerment, as well as environmental protection in all economic activities.
The party also aims to restore rivers, canals, and forestlands free from encroachment, curb pollution, and promote environmentally sustainable urban development.
The manifesto also pledges to recognise the identities of various ethnic groups, promote cultures and diversity, protect the rights of persons with disabilities, expand opportunities for the youth, safeguard the rights, dignity, and security of expatriate Bangladeshis, and ensure their participation in the country’s productive transformation.
Ganosamhati Andolon is contesting the Feb 12 election as part of the BNP-led alliance with 17 candidates.
