Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan has described the condition of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman bin Hadi, receiving treatment there, as “extremely critical.”
According to a media statement from the Chief Advisor’s Office on Wednesday night, Balakrishnan called Muhammad Yunus around 8:45pm to brief him on Hadi’s ongoing medical care, emphasising the severity of his condition.
Following the update, Yunus called on the nation to remain calm and requested prayers and well-wishes for Hadi.
The Inqilab Moncho leader has been receiving treatment at Singapore General Hospital since Monday after being airlifted from Dhaka.
Hadi, who rose to prominence during the July Uprising and the movement to ban the Awami League, had recently declared his intention to contest in the Dhaka-8 constituency as an independent candidate.
On Friday, he was attacked while carrying out public outreach in Bijoynagar. He was shot in the head by assailants riding a motorbike as he travelled in a moving rickshaw.
He was first treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, underwent emergency surgery, and later admitted to Evercare Hospital.
Gravely wounded, Hadi was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for surgery and later admitted to Evercare Hospital the same night.
Doctors had earlier described his condition as “extremely critical”.
