Dhaka, Jan 16 (BDNEWS) – One more private satellite television, Channel 1, formally goes into operation from January 24.
Apart from state-run Bangladesh Television, currently four private satellite channels - ATN Bangla, Channel i, ntv and RTV – are in full operation and two others – Bangla Vision and Baishakhi – are telecasting test transmissions.
'Channel 1 will go on air from January 24,' the Managing Director Giasuddin Al-Mamun announced Monday at a press conference.
President Prof Iajuddin Ahmed is expected to inaugurate the broadcast through a function at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre at 6:00pm on the day.
With more than 300 staffs, the channel would go for experimental broadcasting form Tuesday (January 17) and will air programmes round the clock from the very first day of its formal journey, Channel 1 MD said.
Emphasising on news telecasting, he hoped that the channel would be able to satisfy the viewers with its good quality picture and maintaining objectivity in broadcasting impartial news and views.
Giasuddin said that Channel I would be able to draw attention of the local viewers turning them from the Indian channels through broadcasting entertainment programmes considering the tastes variations of their ages and classes.
Replying to a question, the MD said, BNP senior Joint Secretary General Tarique Rahman does not have any share in the organisation and it would not serve purpose of any political party.
Initially, Channel 1 will be viewed from Asia, Middle East, Africa, northeast Australia and East-Europe.
Channel 1 chief News Editor Nazmul Ashraf, General Manager (Programme) Barkat Ullah and GM Broadcast Engineering and Operation Abdul Mannan, among others, were present at the press briefing.
