A sub-inspector (SI) of Kalabagan Police Station has gone “missing” after leaving his barracks.

The missing officer, 32-year-old Rakibul Hasan Sarkar, has not been seen since he left the station premises in civilian clothes on Tuesday, and his mobile phone remains switched off, police said.

Kalabagan Police chief Md Fazle Ashik told bdnews24.com that Rakib was scheduled for night duty on the day he was last seen.

"He first left the barracks in plain clothes around 5:30pm for tea and returned shortly after,” Ashik said.

“Around 7:45pm, he left again, mentioning his upcoming night shift. He has been untraceable since then," he added.

Following his disappearance, a general diary (GD) was filed, and an alert has been dispatched to all police stations across the country.

Rakibul, son of Maiz Uddin Sarkar from Bapta village in Gazipur’s Sreepur, had joined the police station only a month ago.

Before entering police force, he had served in the customs department.

Some colleagues suggested that Rakibul might have been experiencing "frustration" following his career shift from Customs to the police service.

His family members, however, described him as a "normal" person and expressed shock at his sudden disappearance, noting no known family disputes.

Police also confirmed that the SI was not carrying any service weapon when he left the barracks.
