Furious locals have taken to the streets in Dhaka’s Mirpur, blocking vehicular movement across several intersections to demand the immediate execution of the killer of 7-year-old Ramisa Akter.
The street protests, which began on Thursday evening, brought traffic to a complete standstill in multiple areas, according to Mirpur Police chief Hafizur Rahman.
"Local residents blocked major thoroughfares around dusk," Hafiz told bdnews24.com.
"Apart from the vital Mirpur-10 roundabout, protesters have also occupied the road in Kalshi."
The officer confirmed that demonstrators were still holding their positions as late as 9:30pm.
Earlier in the afternoon, hundreds of people marched through the streets in successive processions stretching from Mirpur Section 10 to Section 12.
The air grew heavy with chants of "Justice, justice, we want justice", "Break down the hideouts of criminals", and "We demand the killer be hanged".

"We don't want to wait for months or years for this trial to conclude like so many other unresolved cases in Bangladesh," an agitated demonstrator said.
"The execution must be carried out within 24 hours, not even seven days."
The massive public outburst follows the recovery of 7-year-old Ramisa's brutally mutilated, decapitated body from a flat in Dhaka's Pallabi on Tuesday morning.
Law-enforcing officials arrested the primary suspect, Sohel Rana, who was a neighbour of the victim.
According to the police, Rana has already confessed to “raping and then murdering” the child in a statement recorded under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
