A Supreme Court lawyer has filed a petition seeking directives to strengthen security for judges serving in the lower courts.

The petition was submitted on Sunday by lawyer Yunus Ali Akond.

He told bdnews24.com that the petition seeks orders to improve security at judges’ residences and court premises, as well as measures to protect their “privacy”.

“The police committed an offence by failing to act on the general diary filed by the Rajshahi judge’s wife. This issue is also included in the petition,” he said.

Yunus added that the petition seeks court orders requiring the inspector general of police, the commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, and Jalalabad Police chief in Sylhet to appear before the court.

The High Court bench of Justice Sikder Mahmudur Razi and Justice Raziuddin Ahmed is expected to hear the petition, said Yunus.

On Thursday, Rajshahi Metropolitan Sessions Court Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahman’s son, Tawsif Rahman Sumon, was stabbed to death in their home. The judge’s wife, Tasmin Nahar Lucy, was critically injured.

A week earlier, Tasmin had filed a general diary with Jalalabad Police in Sylhet seeking protection.
