Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called for a skilled, accountable and people-focused administration to build a “desired Bangladesh”, urging officials to see themselves as servants and friends of the public.
On Saturday at an event at the Bangladesh Institute of Administration and Management (BIAM) auditorium in Dhaka’s Eskaton, he addressed civil servants.
He said they serve as the link between policymaking and implementation, adding that their integrity, efficiency and accountability are key to government success.
Highlighting the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution, Tarique noted that the era of artificial intelligence and automation requires officials to stay ahead of the curve.
He believes the integration of AI and digital technology will make the administration “more efficient and transparent”.
"Our goal is to deliver all government services to the doorsteps of citizens through information technology," he said, adding that the government is ready to provide any support to strengthen the BIAM's role in creating a skilled workforce.
The prime minister stressed the need to overhaul the government's workflow by establishing single-window clearances and one-stop services to facilitate business.
He envisioned an inclusive and humane development model where the benefits of growth reach every level of society, eventually eliminating inequality while ensuring women and youth drive progress.
At the event, Tarique unveiled the foundation stone of the third building of the BIAM Foundation and the Bangladesh Administrative Service Association.
He stressed that modern administration requires more than just knowing regulations; it demands data analysis, swift decision-making, and creative problem-solving.
While questioning whether officials were able to act freely under the previous "fascist" regime, he pivoted to the current administration's mandate, framing government pledges as a "contract" with the people.
The BNP chief affirmed that the government is determined to honour every commitment in its election manifesto and the July Charter.
He told officials that their decisions impact the entire nation, making their roles a profound moral and constitutional duty.
He reiterated a commitment to "meritocracy”, ensuring that appointments and promotions are based strictly on talent and experience.
He also confirmed plans for administrative reforms, including a “stronger” Public Service Commission, to ensure state-wide accountability.
