Independent candidate Rumeen Farhana has been served a show-cause notice for allegedly breaching the electoral code of conduct in the Brahmanbaria-2 constituency, with instructions to appear in person before the district administration to explain her actions.

An order has been issued through a notice on Sunday, accusing her of breaching rules by addressing a rally of around 400–500 people after setting up a large stage.

It alleges that she behaved in an arrogant and discourteous manner when an executive magistrate asked for the rally to be stopped, also issuing threats.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Brahmanbaria Ranjan Chandra Dey said Rumeen has been asked to appear in person at the deputy commissioner’s office at 11am on Jan 22 to provide an explanation.

Earlier, Assistant Returning Officer and Sarail Upazila administrator Md Abubakor Sarkar accused her of “creating a mob”.

On Saturday, he wrote to the election inquiry and judicial committee, as well as Senior Civil Judge Ashraful Islam, seeking legal action over the incident.

Asked about the show-cause notice, Rumeen said: “I learnt about it from Facebook. I have not received the letter.”
