A Supreme Court lawyer has filed a writ petition seeking the formation of a high-powered judicial commission to investigate the killing of scrap metal trader Md Sohag alias, who was bludgeoned to death outside Old Dhaka's Mitford Hospital.

The petition also requests the arrest of those directly involved in the murder.

Advocate Eunus Ali Akond submitted the petition to the High Court on Sunday.

“The writ has been presented to the High Court bench of Justice Zinat Kazi Hoque and Justice Aynun Nahar Siddiqua for hearing,” he told bdnews24.com.

“It will be on the court’s hearing list for tomorrow.”

Lal Chand, 39, was brutally killed on Wednesday in front of Mitford Hospital in Old Dhaka.

Before his death, he was summoned, beaten, struck with bricks and stones, and suffered injuries to his head and other parts of his body.

At one point, he was stripped naked and some individuals jumped on him.

A case was filed at the Kotwali Police Station on Thursday over the killing.

The victim’s sister, Manjuara Begum, 42, lodged the case.

The case implicates 19 people and lists 15-20 unidentified suspects.

Police have arrested five suspects in the much discussed case.

Those in custody include Titon Gazi, Mahmudul Hasan Mohin, 41, Tarique Rahman Robin, 22, Alamgir, 28, and Monir alias Chhoto Monir, 25.
