A pedestrian has died at Chattogram’s Nimtala when a vehicle skidded off the expressway onto the road below, leaving five others injured as well.
The incident occurred around 4:30pm on Thursday near Nimtala Mor under Bandar Police Station, when a Toyota Harrier descending from Patenga veered off the Shahid Wasim Akram Highway and crashed onto the road opposite Barik Building.
Inspector (Investigation) Sirajul Islam said four seriously injured, including a young woman, were taken to Islami Bank Hospital, while pedestrian Shafiq, 55, identified only by a single name, was rushed to the Mother and Childcare Hospital, where he later died.
The crash caused severe congestion on both sides of the busy road connecting to Chattogram Port.
A police officer added that the accident occurred on the Lal Khan Bazar–bound lane near Nimtala Mor, and investigators are examining how the vehicle fell.
