The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has issued arrest warrants against four Border Guard Bangladesh personnel in a case of crimes against humanity over the killings of 28 people in Dhaka’s Rampura during the July Uprising.
A three-member bench led by Tribunal-1 Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder issued the order on Wednesday.
Prosecutor Md Mizanul Islam raised the formal charges against the four accused before the tribunal. The tribunal took cognisance of the charges and ordered arrest warrants to be issued against the suspects.
The next hearing on the matter has been fixed for Oct 22.
Prosecutor Faruk Ahmed submitted the formal charges on behalf of the prosecution at the tribunal earlier in the morning.
The accused are Lt Redwanul Islam, Maj Md Rafat Bin Alam Mun, former additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Khilgaon region Md Rashedul Islam and former of Rampura Police Station chief Md Mashiur Rahman.
A total of 28 people lost their lives in Dhaka’s Rampura during the 2024 mass uprising. BGB officer Redwanul was seen directly shooting at protesters.
Several allegations have been submitted to the tribunal that a faction of law enforcers, including members of the administration loyal to the Awami League government, committed genocide and crimes against humanity in suppressing the student-led mass movement last year. These crimes are being tried at the International Crimes Tribunal.
