Emergency responders have doused a fire in a multi-storey commercial building in the Segunbagicha area of Dhaka’s Purana Paltan.

Fire Service and Civil Defence Department official Anwar Bin Sattar reported receiving the news of the blaze at 3:04pm on Saturday.

Five Fire Service units brought the fire under control at 3:30pm, according to him.

The department official said, "The fire erupted on the ninth floor of a 10-storey building. Upon receiving the news, the Fire Service arrived at 3:14pm and began work to douse the fire."

They were able to bring the fire under control quickly, at 3:30pm, and there were no reports of casualties in the incident, he added.

The official, however, could not immediately confirm the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage.
