The Jamaat-e-Islami has called for revisions to the July Proclamation issued by the interim government, demanding the inclusion of historical events it says were overlooked in the current version.
The party raised the demand two days after the document was released.
Speaking at the National Press Club on Thursday, Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar said: “The nation had been waiting for a July revolution. This will be recorded as a significant contribution in the country’s history.
“But if the blood and lives of hundreds go in vain, it may give rise to a new form of ‘fascism’.”
Parwar argued that "the killing of judges, the Pilkhana massacre, the Shapla Chattar incident, and the contributions of teachers were all left out of the proclamation".
“The true spirit of July Uprising was not reflected in the document. These issues must be included and the proclamation must be revised,” he said.
