A fresh reshuffle has seen seven Chattogram police station chiefs (OCs) moved in just two days.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasan Md Showkat Ali issued the orders on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The transfers covered stations in Double Mooring, Karnafuli, Khulshi, Chawkbazar, Chandgaon, Kotwali and Sadarghat.
Under the Tuesday order, the following transfers were made:
• Karnafuli OC Shahinur Alam transferred to Double Mooring Police Station
• City Special Branch Inspector Kazi Masud Ibn Anwar posted to Karnafuli Police Station
• Double Mooring OC Jamal Uddin Khan moved to City Special Branch
• Md Sulaiman, earlier transferred from Bakalia to Khulshi, shifted to City Special Branch
• Inspector Mozammel Haque posted to Khulshi Police Station
• Chawkbazar OC Babul Azad transferred to Detective Police (South Division)
• Chandgaon OC Noor Hossain Mamun moved to Chawkbazar Police Station
• Detective Police (South Division) Inspector Jasim Uddin posted to Chandgaon Police Station
On Wednesday, further changes were made:

• Kotwali OC Aftab Uddin attached to Police Lines
• Abu Zayed Md Nazmun Noor appointed OC of Kotwali Police Station
• Md Sharif posted to Sadarghat Police Station from Estate and Building Branch
• Sadarghat OC Kazi Md Mahfuz Hasan Siddiqui moved to Detective Branch
• Inspector Ikhtiar Uddin from Counter Terrorism Unit posted to Karnafuli Police Station
Additional Commissioner (Administration) Wahidul Hoque Chowdhury said the reshuffle was part of routine transfers.
“Routine transfers are being carried out, and allegations have also been raised against some officers,” he said, declining further details.
In December, two news outlets reported that at a Karnaphuli Third Bridge checkpoint in Bakalia on Dec 8, around 2am, a bus bound for Dhaka was searched.
A policeman identified as Imtiaz Hossain was caught with yaba tablets but was released, with 120,000 pills allegedly disappearing from evidence.
Reports identified Imtiaz as the gunman of a Cox's Bazar district court judge.
On Dec 23, Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate SM Alauddin Mahmud took suo motu cognisance of the reports and filed a case.
Allegations emerged at the time that the drugs had been seized and the carrier released on the orders of the then Bakalia OC Aftab.
The CMP formed an internal inquiry committee, which led to eight personnel on duty that night being suspended on Jan 5, and a recommendation to Police Headquarters over inspector (investigation) Tanvir Ahmed.
No action, however, was taken against OC Aftab at that stage; he was instead transferred to Kotwali.
Tanvir was suspended on Jun 9.
A police official told bdnews24.com that CMP's internal inquiry had recommended action against Aftab to Police Headquarters, and his removal from Kotwali to Police Lines followed that recommendation.
The new Kotwali OC Nazmun Noor previously faced protests from activists of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement over an incident in Patiya last year, after which he was withdrawn and attached to Chattogram Range.
