Arabic teacher accused of trying to rape 5-year-old student in Magura

Police say they will take action against the suspect after investigation

An Arabic teacher has allegedly tried to rape a 5-year-old student in Magura’s Sreepur Upazila, according to a police complaint filed by the child’s mother.

The suspect, 50-year old Oliar Rahman, was named in the complaint on Monday, said Sreepur Police chief Ataur Rahman.

The woman said Oliar had been teaching her child Arabic for nearly six months at her paternal home in Nakol Union and that he skipped the lessons for the Eid-ul-Fitr break.

When he resumed classes on Apr 15 after the prolonged Eid holidays, the woman asked the child to attend. But the child declined to take his lessons.

As the mother kept insisting, the child revealed the “attempted rape”.

After discussing it with other family members, she filed the complaint, the police officer said, adding that further action will be taken against the suspect after investigating into v the allegation.
