The BNP government has achieved "multidimensional and unprecedented success" across all ministries during its first five months in office, focusing on democratic reconstruction and economic stability, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.
Speaking at a press conference at the PMO on Saturday, spokesperson Mahdi Amin said the government's achievements could be grouped into five broad areas: public trust, protection of the interests of people from all walks of life in line with its election manifesto, successful handling of major short-term challenges, safeguarding national sovereignty and freedoms, and the statesmanlike leadership of the prime minister.
He said the government had also laid the foundation for "a humane, discrimination-free, secure, merit-based, prosperous and self-reliant Bangladesh".
Mahdi said that after assuming office through a direct public mandate, the government prioritised rebuilding democratic institutions and maintaining economic stability.
He claimed it had sent a strong message on good governance by controlling inflation, restoring discipline in the financial sector, working to recover laundered money and reviewing development projects to ensure cost efficiency and eliminate corruption.
He also said rehabilitation efforts were under way for people affected by recent floods, while work continued to rebuild the health and education sectors.
Highlighting specific achievements, Mahdi cited the disposal of the Ramisa Akter rape and murder case within 19 days and the Meherpur child rape case within 29 working days.
He said 10 verdicts had also been delivered within a month in death references and appeals under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
He pointed to the arrest in Dhaka of Mozzaffar Hossain, whom he described as the killer of former president Ziaur Rahman, calling it an "unprecedented success" by intelligence agencies.
He also referred to efforts to extradite suspects in the high-profile Sohagi Jahan Tonu murder case and the Sharif Osman Bin Hadi murder case from a neighbouring country, as well as the arrest of former police chief Benazir Ahmed in Dubai with Interpol's assistance.
Mahdi also listed legislation passed during the parliamentary session, including the July Fighters' Indemnity Act and amendments to the Anti-Terrorism Act allowing the prohibition of political parties or organisations.
He said steps had also been taken to bring convicted Awami League leader Sheikh Hasina back to Bangladesh.
Other measures included the withdrawal of monthly charges on prepaid electricity metres, expansion of rural healthcare services, upgrading Upazila hospitals to 101-Bed facilities with ICU services, increasing education scholarships, declaring the 2026-27 fiscal year as Nazrul Year, banning the use of the prime minister's photograph on banners at government events, launching a nationwide programme to plant 250 million trees over five years, introducing AI cameras on roads, modernising Chattogram Port's cargo release system, planning four inter-district bus terminals outside Dhaka, and reducing inflation to 8.71 percent while foreign exchange reserves reached $36.58 billion.
