Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood claims there is no real load shedding in rural areas.
Rural power lines are very extensive and it takes time to identify any faults, he said. As a result, the power supply to certain areas can temporarily be cut off.
“But, when lines are fixed, the power supply returns to normal,” he told the media after taking part in the third day of the Deputy Commissioners’ (DC) Conference at Dhaka’s Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Tuesday.
The minister said, “The load shedding seen a few days ago was not due to a fuel oil crisis; rather, the situation developed due to a mechanical fault.”
Alleging that “load shedding does not occur due to lack of oil’, the minister said: “The deputy commissioners have played an important role in dealing with the artificial crisis that was created recently regarding oil.”
Iqbal thanked the district administrators for their efforts and added that they have also been informed about the current power and energy situation.
He said, "To implement the target of generating 10,000MW of electricity through solar panels within the next five years, instructions have been given to install solar panels at DC offices within the next three months."
The power minister said assurances of cooperation have also been received from the deputy commissioners in this regard.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit was also present for the occasion.
