The government is working on the notes of dissent raised by the BNP on some issues in the July National Charter, says Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman.
Addressing an event at the Khulna District Bar Association on Friday, he pledged that every clause of the charter will be fully realised.
"We’ve said in various places that every ‘full stop, semicolon and comma’ of the July Charter will be implemented” he said, recounting that 33 political parties signed the charter.
"However, in the interest of the country, the BNP placed notes of dissent on some issues, and the government is working while keeping those issues in mind."
On enacting the charter, Asaduzzaman said: "A big debate of the current time is its implementation. The prime minister has clearly said we are united in implementing it."
Emphasising the improvement of professional skills of lawyers, the minister said, "There is no alternative to training lawyers.”
A British firm will trail lawyers in all district bars of the country, said Asaduzzaman, also the Jhenaidah-1 MP.
Skilled lawyers can help get competent judges, according to Asaduzzaman, who said: “If an influence-free judiciary is established, justice will be ensured in the country."
He said that the judiciary must be made into a dignified institution to consolidate democracy, rule of law and human rights.
And for this, the honesty, dedication and professional standards of lawyers are essential, added the minister.
