More than two months after being sidelined, Joint Convenor Sarwar Tusher has been reinstated in the National Citizen Party (NCP) and allowed to resume organisational activities.
At the same time, the party has withdrawn the show-cause notice issued against him on allegations of “moral turpitude”.
The decision was announced in a press release on Saturday night, signed by Joint Office Secretary Saleh Uddin Sifat.
On Jun 17, NCP issued a show-cause notice to Tushar after an audio clip of a personal phone conversation with a woman was leaked on social media. Accusing him of moral lapse, the party had asked him to explain within five days and barred him from party activities until the matter was resolved.
In its statement, the NCP said Tusher had submitted his written response to the convenor, member secretary, political council and the party’s disciplinary committee. After reviewing the explanation, it said the matter was a “purely personal communication” and should be judged with sensitivity towards the woman concerned and in the interests of justice.
The party noted that Tusher had complied with instructions by staying away from organisational work for more than two months.
During that time he refrained from participating in NCP’s “July March”, from representing the party at the National Consensus Commission, from engaging with the media, and from attending the Narsingdi march, among other activities.
“Upon reviewing the overall situation, the written reply and available evidence, and given that he has remained away from organisational work for two months, Sarwar Tushar is hereby reinstated in all activities of the party,” the press release said.
