Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has reported to his office despite the start of the Eid holidays with the Shab-e-Qadr break.
The premier arrived at his office at the Secretariat at 11am on Tuesday, according to his press aide Atiqur Rahman Ruman.
“The Eid holidays have begun from today. Even though it is a government holiday, the prime minister is working,” he said.
Tarique's schedule for the day includes a cabinet meeting, he added.
“Before that, he has several meetings, which are now under way."
The Eid break will continue until Mar 23.
The Ministry of Public Administration had earlier fixed a five-day holiday from Mar 19 to Mar 23. Under that schedule, Mar 21, the likely date of Eid-ul-Fitr, was set as a public holiday.
In addition, Mar 19 and Mar 20 before Eid, and Mar 22 and Mar 23 after Eid, were declared holidays by executive order.
To help ease Eid travel, the government also announced Mar 18 as a holiday by executive order, in addition to the previously declared break.
With the Shab-e-Qadr holiday on Mar 17, government employees have received seven consecutive days off.
On Monday, the prime minister inaugurated excavation work on the Sahapara Canal in Dinajpur.
