Students who missed Monday's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams due to heavy rain and waterlogging will get another chance to take the paper.
They will be able to take the exam on the same day as Chattogram board's rescheduled papers, said Mahdi Amin, spokesperson and advisor for the Prime Minister's Office.
Announcing the decision in a Facebook post on Tuesday night, he wrote: "If any student anywhere in the country was unable to sit the exam [Jul 13] due to adverse weather, they will be able to take it on the same day as Chattogram board's rescheduled exam."
Mahdi also said all candidates would receive full marks for the two erroneous questions in the Physics First Paper, describing the move as a “student-friendly” decision.
He added that exams would continue as scheduled across the country except in Chattogram Division.
The breakthrough follows a day of high drama, street blockades, and scuffles with police as students demanded the postponement of exams and the resignation of Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon.
Despite the agitation, the government maintained that exams would continue outside the flood-hit Chattogram, prompting demonstrators to threaten a long march to the Secretariat if Wednesday's tests were not suspended.
On Wednesday, the Physics, Accounting, and Logic second paper exams under nine general boards are set to take place outside Chattogram.
The Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board’s Arabic second paper alongside technical vocational tests across five districts outside Chattogram Division are also scheduled.
HSC and equivalent exams under the Chattogram board remain suspended until Thursday due to severe weather and flooding since Jul 8.
Monday marked the sixth day of the public examinations.
Demands to defer Monday's Physics, Accounting, and Logic first paper tests arose on Sunday due to downpours, but education boards pushed ahead outside Chattogram, leaving many students stranded in waterlogged streets until Monday afternoon.
Compounding the distress, examinees faced two erroneous questions in the Physics first paper.
Angered by the situation, student fury grew following a leaked audio clip on Monday night, where the education minister allegedly referred to examinees as "farm chickens" during a phone call with a woman.
This sparked widespread protests on Tuesday morning across Dhaka, Cumilla, Chattogram, Mymensingh, Kurigram, Tangail, Jhalakathi, Joypurhat, Barishal, and Faridpur.
Later on Tuesday afternoon, Milon offered an apology in parliament for his comment and announced retakes for the affected subjects.
He said the fresh exams for worst-hit students nationwide would be synchronised with the rescheduled Chattogram board exams using new question papers.
Amin later clarified the minister's speech online.
A total of 1,270,583 candidates have been sitting for the HSC and equivalent exams across 2,697 centres nationwide since Jul 2.
