A crude explosive device has detonated outside the deputy commissioner’s residence in Gopalganj.
The blast occurred around 7:30pm on Tuesday, Additional Police Superintendent (DSB) Md Sarwar Hossain said.
According to a notice circulating in the district police media group, unidentified criminals hurled a crude bomb at the footpath along the Launchghat-to-Ghonapara municipal road, adjacent to the southern edge Gopalganj municipality.
The device exploded with a loud bang, though no casualties or damage were reported.
Senior district police officials, along with the Sadar Police Station chief, visited the scene after the incident was reported.
The location mentioned in the police notice is in front of the district administrator’s residence.
In recent days, similar crude bomb explosions have been reported at different points in Gopalganj town.
On Jan 28, a device was detonated at the residence of a district and sessions judge on College Road.
Another blast occurred in front of the main gate of Gopalganj Science and Technology School in Gobra on Jan 26.
On Jan 30, an explosion was reported at the Ansar Battalion 2 headquarters in Bedgram.
Officer Sarwar said the perpetrators fled the scene immediately after the attack.
He confirmed that police operations are under way to track down and arrest those responsible, adding that the law-and-order situation remains under control.
