The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), with the help of local residents, has thwarted an attempt by India's Border Security Force (BSF) to push six people into Bangladesh through a border point in Meherpur's Gangni Upazila.
The incident occurred near Pillar 104 of the Tentulbaria border early on Saturday, said Nurul Huda, assistant director of the Kushtia-based 47 BGB Battalion.
The six individuals -- three men, two women, and a child -- are currently staying on the Indian side near the barbed-wire fence.

According to the BGB, the BSF had opened a section of the fence and attempted to force the group towards Bangladesh.
When they tried to enter Bangladeshi territory, BGB personnel and local residents intervened and prevented the crossing.
The group later returned to the area beside the border fence on the Indian side.
Following the incident, the BGB deployed additional personnel to the border.

Members of the force have been using megaphones to manage the situation and urged the BSF to take the individuals back into Indian territory.
Nurul said Bangladesh would not accept illegal crossings or "push-ins".
"The BGB remains on alert to prevent any form of unauthorised entry along the border," he said.
