A leader of the Bangladesh Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangsad (BGCS) has been accused of beating up 50 students for allegedly failing the half-yearly examination of a secondary school in Rangpur.

The incident took place on Sept 4 at the city’s Harati Keshorghat High School, but came to light on Tuesday.

The students’ guardians and locals have expressed anger over the incident.

Parshuram Police chief Maidul Islam said a guardian has filed a general diary (GD) online against the BGCS leader in connection with this incident.

Imtiaz Ahmed Imti is the convenor of the organisation’s Rangpur metropolitan committee and the school’s management committee.

Although 19 days have passed since the incident, the school has yet to take any legal action.
