A court has ordered investigators to submit their report in the murder case of Inqilab Moncho Convenor Sharif Osman Hadi by Feb 19.

The report was due to be submitted on Sunday. However, the investigation officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police of Criminal Investigation Department Abdur Qadir Bhuiyan, was unable to do so.

Therefore, Additional Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam ordered the submission of the report by Feb 19, said Sub-Inspector Ruknuzzaman of the Prosecution Department.

The Detective Branch (DB) police filed a charge sheet on Jan 6, accusing 17 people in the Hadi murder case. But Inqilab Moncho is not satisfied with the charge sheet.

The case was set for a hearing on Jan 12. The plaintiff in the case, Abdullah Al Jaber, asked for two days to review the charge sheet that day. The court approved the extension and set Jan 15 as the date for taking the charge sheet into cognisance.

On that day, Abdullah, member secretary of Inqilab Moncho, filed an objection expressing dissatisfaction with the DB charge sheet. Later, the court ordered the CID to investigate the case.

After receiving the charge sheet, Faisal Rubel Ahmed, a close associate of prime suspect Karim Masud alias Rahul, was arrested. After being remanded for 12 days in two phases, he gave a “confessional statement”. He was then sent to jail.

Hadi, convenor of the Inqilab Moncho and a prospective candidate, rose to prominence during the July Uprising and the movement to ban the Awami League.

On Dec 12, while campaigning in Bijoynagar, he was shot by attackers on a motorcycle.

Gravely wounded, Hadi was airlifted to Singapore for advanced treatment, where he died on Dec 18.

Inqilab Moncho’s member secretary filed the case over Hadi’s murder.

On Jan 6, police submitted the chargesheet in the murder case accusing 17 suspects, including former Chhatra League activist Faisal, who alongside four others are on the run.

Police said Hadi's murder was “politically motivated”.

After the investigation, the DB filed a charge sheet in the Hadi murder case on Jan 6, accusing 17 people, including former ward councillor Taijul Islam Chowdhury Bappi and former Chhatra League activist Faisal Karim Masud.

The accused in the charge sheet are prime suspect Faisal Karim Masud alias Rahul alias Daud, 37, his father Md Humayun Kabir, 70, mother Hasi Begum, 60, wife Shaheda Parveen Samia, 24, brother-in-law Wahid Ahmed Shipu, 27, his girlfriend Maria Akhter Lima, 21, Md Kabir, 33, Md Nuruzzaman Nomani alias Ujjwal, 34, as well as those who are accused of helping suspects flee to India, Sibion Diu, 32, Sanjay Chisim, 23, Md, Aminul Islam alias Raju, 37, Philip Snal, 32, Mukti Mahmud, 51, and Jasmine Akhter, 42, and those accused following the recovery of the weapon and ammunition used in the killing Md Faisal, 25, Md Alamgir Hossain alias Alamgir Sheikh, 26, former ward councillor Md Taijul Islam Chowdhury Bappi.

Among them, the last five are absconding, including Karim, Philip, Mukti, Jasmine, and Taijul are absconding.

In the charge sheet, investigation officer DB Police Inspector Faisal Ahmed said that, after analysing the political identities of the accused and the political statements made by Hadi at different times, it was initially understood that Hadi was shot dead “due to a political vendetta”.

In addition, the charge sheet states that the accused Faisal and his associates infiltrated Hadi's election campaign in a pre-planned manner to “obstruct” the 13th parliamentary elections and “create fear” among voters.
