A three-member inquiry committee, comprising interim government advisors, has visited Shahjalal International Airport to investigate former President Abdul Hamid's departure.

The committee, headed by Education Advisor CR Abrar, includes Environment Advisor Syeda Rizwana Hasan, and Shipping Advisor Sakhawat Hossain.

A senior officer, who asked not to be named, from the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) confirmed the visit to bdnews24.com on Tuesday night.

“The visit was to investigate the incident surrounding Abdul Hamid’s departure from the country. The committee questioned several on-duty officials during the inspection,” the CAAB officer said.

Later, the committee held a meeting with senior officials from the different security forces stationed at the immigration desk.

However, the officer failed to provide details about the questioning, the attendees of the meeting, or what was discussed.

When contacted, Group Captain Kamrul Islam, executive director of Shahjalal International Airport, declined to comment on the matter.

Attempts to reach Rizwana for comment via text also went unanswered.

Named in multiple cases, Hamid, who served two terms as president under the Awami League government, left the country early Thursday aboard a Thai Airways flight, sparking discussions that snowballed into a successful protest leading to the banning of all activities of the Awami League and suspension of its registration as a political party.

A case filed with Kishoreganj Sadar police names both Hamid and deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina as the accused.

Four police officers faced disciplinary action over alleged negligence linked to the incident.

Later, on Sunday, a three-member investigation committee was formed, which is to submit findings within 15 days.
