A wet spell is expected to linger over northern Bangladesh for four days, while temperatures across the country are likely to inch upwards.
In a video bulletin released on the verified Facebook page of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Thursday night, Assistant Meteorologist Afroza Sultana said rain-bearing clouds are set to spread across several parts of the country from 6am on Friday.
According to the forecast, 51 to 75 percent of areas in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions may experience temporary gusty or squally winds accompanied by moderate to heavy rain or thundershowers over the next 24 hours.
Parts of Rajshahi, Dhaka and Chattogram divisions are also likely to see light to moderate rain or thunderstorms with gusty winds in 25 to 50 percent of areas, while Khulna and Barishal divisions may receive similar weather in 1 to 25 percent of places.
The Met Office categorises 11-22mm of rain as moderate, 23-43mm as moderately heavy, over 44mm as heavy, and anything above 88mm as very heavy.
The unsettled weather is expected to linger into Saturday and Sunday, with Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions again likely to receive moderate to heavy rain in 51 to 75 percent of areas alongside gusty winds and thunderstorms.
Rainfall will spread across 25 to 50 percent of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, and Chattogram, with Khulna and Barishal seeing more scattered activity.
By Monday, the rain is expected to ease off slightly in some areas, though Mymensingh and Sylhet may still see isolated heavy falls.
Despite the rain, the forecaster predicts temperatures will climb across the country, with daytime highs hovering between 30 and 36 degrees Celsius and night temperatures staying within the 22 to 26 degrees Celsius range.
