Milestone School and College is set to resume classes in full swing from Wednesday following limited academic activities in the wake of the deadly fighter jet crash on the campus in Dhaka's Diabari.

Classes will begin at 8:30am on that day in line with the regular schedule, according to the institution's spokesman Shah Bulbul.

After a 12-day closure, students started returning to campus on Sunday, taking part in a memorial gathering upon arrival.

“Students from grades 9 to 12 came to school. They joined a memorial programme. Regular academic activities will resume from Wednesday," said Bulbul

On Jul 21, around noon, a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed into a building of Milestone School, causing a fire.

At least 20 people -- most of them children and students -- were killed that day. Later, the death toll rose to 34.

In recent days, nine injured students have returned home after receiving treatment at hospitals. Several others are still receiving treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery and other hospitals.

The day after the deadly crash, the nation observed a day of state mourning.

Six days after the incident, the institution had initially planned to resume limited classes at its Diabari campus starting Jul 27.

On the previous day, Bulbul said: “Classes won’t start on Sunday. Initially, a three-day closure was announced, which was then extended for two more days, Sunday and Monday.”

Asked whether the school would reopen on Tuesday after the break, he said: “That decision will be known on Monday. The authorities will meet and decide whether to reopen or not.”

However, on Jul 28, the closure was extended for a third time, this time until Aug 2.
