The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has thwarted an “attempt by India's Border Security Force” (BSF) to push nine people, including women and children, through the Sapahar border in Naogaon.
The group remains at the zero line and in the no-man’s land after being prevented from crossing, the BGB said on Wednesday morning.
The BSF personnel from the Elenpur Camp of the 29 Battalion attempted to push the group through Border Pillar 244/MP near the Adalatla Border Outpost (BOP) around 4am, it added.
Among them are three men, three women and three children.
After receiving news of the incident, a BGB patrol rushed to the spot and blocked the attempted entry.
To keep the situation under control, additional BGB personnel have been deployed in the area, while around-the-clock monitoring has been reinforced with support from local residents.
Naogaon-16 BGB Commander Lt Col Mohammad Ariful Islam Masum said no one, including the nine individuals now at the border, would be allowed to enter Bangladesh illegally.
Efforts are under way to send them back to Indian territory, he said.
On Jun 5 and Jun 8, the BSF reportedly attempted to push 40 people through the Porsha and Sapahar borders of Naogaon.
Those attempts were also thwarted after BGB personnel and local residents maintained a vigilant presence, forcing the BSF to take them back.
