Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is on his way to the Chinese capital of Beijing.
After attending the 17th annual World Economic Forum (WEF) “Meeting of the New Champions” conference in China’s Dalian, the prime minister departed by high-speed train at 1:57pm on Wednesday, accompanied by his wife Zubaida Rahman, said his Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman.
The WEF is known as the “summer-time Davos” and was held at the Dalian International Conference Centre.
The session was also attended by Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang, South Korean Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, Kazakhstan Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, Mongolian Prime Minister Uchral Nyam-Osor, Montenegro Prime Minister Milojko Spajić and Guinea Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah, in addition to more than 1,700 representatives from the political, business, academic, and media sectors for more than 90 countries and regions.
“[Tarique’s] participation in the ‘Summer Davos’ will not only expand new investment and employment opportunities for Bangladesh, but also enrich and strengthen national capabilities by adopting best practices from different countries,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.
The prime minister's arrival in Beijing will kick off a three-day state visit.
He is visiting China at the invitation of Li Qiang and will hold bilateral meetings with him in Beijing on Thursday and Friday.
Tarique will also meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and other top leaders of the Chinese Communist Party during his stay.
As per the tour schedule, Li will extend a red-carpet welcome to Tarique at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Thursday.
The prime ministers of the two countries will lead a high-level meeting between delegations at the Great Hall that day.
After completing his first foreign visit to Malaysia, Tarique arrived in the northeastern city of Dalian on Monday afternoon.
On Tuesday morning, he was paid a courtesy call by WEF President and CEO Alois Zwinggi.
In the evening, Tarique spoke at the WEF session titled “Climate Leadership in a Shifting Global Landscape”.
The prime minister also attended a dinner hosted by Chinese Premier Li in honour of heads of government participating in the conference.
