Police have secured five days to question former Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Redwanun Mir Pallab in the case involving the 2018 attack on BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's motorcade.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Monirul Islam delivered the order on Monday, following a petition from the investigating officer.
On Oct 4, Sub-Inspector Hasanuzzaman, the investigating officer from Shahbagh Police Station, submitted an application seeking a 10-day remand for Pallab.
He was produced in court during the hearing. State counsel Harun Or Rashid presented arguments in favour of the remand application.
On behalf of the suspect, his lawyer Haider Ali Howlader applied for bail and the cancellation of the remand application. After the hearing, the judge granted five days to interrogate Pallab, according to SI Zinnat Ali of the Prosecution Division.
According to the case statement, on Feb 8, 2018, Khaleda set off for the temporary court set up at the Aliya Madrasa field in Bakshibazar to hear the verdict in the Zia orphanage trust corruption case.
As her motorcade reached Dhaka University’s Doel Chattar area, Chhatra League activists reportedly attacked it, leaving several BNP activists injured.
Selim Hossain Rana filed the case in court on Oct 16 last year over the incident.
As many as 106 people have been named as accused in the case, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
