Hasnat Abdullah, one of the coordinators of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, has announced a siege of the High Court demanding the resignation of pro-Awami League judges.

In a Facebook post released at 9:20pm Tuesday from his verified account, the coordinator made the call of a march from Dhaka University’s Raju Memorial Sculpture to the High Court at 11am on Wednesday.

Hasnat, the coordinator who played a significant role in the anti-government movement stemming from the protest for reforms to quotas in government jobs, wrote on social media: "The High Court siege programme has been called demanding resignation of the pro-Awami League fascist judges.”

He later disclosed the reason behind the protest in the comments section of the post, writing: "The Awami League which caused the blood of thousands of students and citizens to shed, how dare they chant slogans saying the name of the killer Hasina in the High Court premises just within two months?"

In another comment, he wrote, “The streets will be shaken again to drive out the black vultures.”

However, the chants in support of the former premier Sheikh Hasina were not made in the High Court premises on Tuesday. The incident occurred at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrates Court, Dhaka.

Earlier on Aug 10, a group of students gathered at the High Court on the call of the coordinators. The then chief justice Obaidul Hassan was forced to resign the same day. Later, five judges of the Appellate Division also resigned.

Hasnat had also threatened to encircle the chief justice's residence on that day if their demands were not met.
