Florida police have confirmed that a body they recovered is that of Nahida Sultana Bristy, a Bangladeshi national who had gone to study in America.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington cited Bristy’s family, saying: “Today (May 1, 2026), the Florida Police Department called Nahida Sultana Bristy’s brother and confirmed that the second body recovered was that of Bristy.
“Bristy’s family has requested that the body be sent to Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, DC, is initiating the process of sending Bristy’s body back to the country through the Bangladesh Consulate in Miami.”
Zamil Ahamed Limon and Bristy, both PhD students at the University of South Florida, had been missing since Apr 16.
Finding their phones switched off and unable to contact them in any way, the family reached out to the police in the university area.

On Apr 24, the police recovered Limon's mutilated body from a local bridge. The same day, the police arrested Limon's roommate. He was charged with two counts of premeditated murder.
Florida police arrested 26-year-old US citizen Hisham Abugarbieh that day, charging him with two counts of premeditated murder. Hisham was Limon’s roommate in Tampa, Florida.
During the course of the investigation, the police informed Bristy's family over the phone that she had also been killed. Police recovered human remains from a local reservoir in the midst of the search. The law enforcers then said they would conduct tests to confirm whether it was Bristy's.
On Thursday, the Bangladesh Embassy said that Limon's body would be sent to Bangladesh from Orlando, Florida, on May 2 and reach Dhaka via Dubai on May 4.
