The first unit of the Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant in Dinajpur has returned to electricity production, with power added to the national grid after a temporary shutdown.
Power generated from the 125-MW Unit-1 was added to the national grid at 9pm on Wednesday, the plant’s Chief Engineer Abu Bakar Siddique said.
The unit had gone offline on Jan 18 after a boiler tube burst while it was in operation.
According to officials at the coal-based power plant, it has three units in total.
The first and second units each have a generation capacity of 125MW, while the third unit can produce 275MW.
The plant’s second unit, part of the 525-MW facility, has remained shut since November 2020 due to mechanical faults.
The third unit, with a generation capacity of 275MW, has been offline since October due to an overhaul involving a full inspection, repair and reinstallation of equipment.
It may take another two months before the unit is brought back online.
Since the shutdown of the third unit, the 125-MW first unit had been the only one in operation at the power plant.
