A teenage boy has been shot dead during a clash linked to a local power struggle in Narsingdi’s Raipura Upazila, police say.
The incident took place around 6am on Wednesday in the Saydabad area of Sreenagar Union, Raipura Police Station chief Md Mujibur Rahman said.
The victim, 14-year-old Mustakim Mia, was the son of Masud Rana, an expatriate living in Saudi Arabia.
Police say the killing followed fresh violence rooted in an ongoing rivalry between two local groups in the Char areas of Raipura.
The dispute, centred on dominance and factional control, has triggered multiple clashes in recent weeks, leaving eight people -- including women -- shot and several homes attacked and looted.
One group is led by Hanif Master, while the rival faction is headed by Ershad Mia.
According to police and locals, supporters of Ershad launched an early-morning attack on houses belonging to Hanif’s followers, armed with firearms and sharp weapons. The attack was met with resistance, leading to a clash.
During the violence, Masum alias China -- the nephew of former Union Parishad member Md Firoz and aligned with the Ershad group -- opened fire, killing Mustakim on the spot, witnesses said.
Locals said at least 10 people were injured in the clash. Among the wounded were Rafiqul Islam, 37, Sohan, 26, and Rozina Begum, 35, all from Saydabad, who suffered gunshot injuries.
The identities of the remaining injured could not be confirmed.
Mustakim’s mother, Shahana Begum, said her son had stepped out of the house and was standing in the yard when he was shot.
She said the family was not aligned with either group and demanded justice for the killing of her son.
Bimal Chandra Dhar, a doctor at the Raipura Upazila Health Complex emergency department, said: “Mustakim was brought to the hospital with a gunshot wound. The bullet entered and exited the left side of his chest. He was later declared dead.”
Police have deployed additional personnel in the area to prevent further unrest.
Officer Mujibur said raids were under way to identify and arrest those involved.
He added that he did not yet have a confirmed number of casualties.
