The High Court has granted bail to former Awami League minister Dipu Moni in one of seven cases filed against her at different police stations in Dhaka.
The court also issued a rule asking why she should not be granted bail in the remaining six cases.
The order was passed on Wednesday by the bench of Justice Md Khairul Alam and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher.
Dipu Moni's lawyer Ramzan Ali Sikdar said the High Court heard petitions in seven cases involving her on the day.
Of those, the court granted her bail and issued a rule in a case filed with Mohammadpur Police.
Rulings were issued in the other six cases without granting bail, he said.
The remaining cases were filed with Badda and Jatrabari police, according to Ramzan.
Dipu Moni has also been named in several cases in Chandpur.
A joint general secretary of the Awami League and a former minister, Dipu Moni was arrested from Dhaka’s Baridhara on Aug 19, 2024, following the government’s ouster in the July Uprising.
She was later shown arrested in a murder case filed with Mohammadpur Police.
Since then, she has been named in multiple cases involving allegations of murder and conspiracy.
She is currently being held at Munshiganj District Jail.
Dipu Moni’s daughter, Tani Deepavali Nawaz, applied on May 27 for her mother to be released on parole for seven days on humanitarian grounds.
The application was submitted to the Munshiganj deputy commissioner, citing the serious illness of Dipu Moni's husband, Tawfique Nawaz.
