A Russian national who worked at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant Project has been found dead in Pabna’s Ishwardi.

The body of Karpov Kirill, 26, was recovered from his flat in the Jigatola area on Saturday night, according to Additional Superintendent of Police Pranab Kumar Sarkar of the Ishwardi Circle.

He worked as an electrician in the contractor company of the project ESKM.

Afzal Hossain, chief of Ishwardy Ambagan Police Outpost, said that Karpov lived alone in a rented flat. His family members in Russia tried to contact him repeatedly over mobile phone but failed. Then they informed the company's security officer.

The security officer then broke into the flat, accompanied by interpreter Anwarul Islam and another Russian national living next door.

Kirill was found lying face down on the bed. A Russian doctor, identified by a single name as Mikhail, was later called and declared him dead.

“Our initial findings suggest the Russian citizen could have died from a stroke. He received treatment at a private hospital in Dhaka a few days ago,” said Pranab.

He added that the body had been sent to the morgue at Pabna General Hospital for a post-mortem examination to confirm the exact cause of death.
