Bangladesh Bank has introduced a new design for the Tk 10 banknote, featuring imagery from last year’s July Uprising alongside its earlier design of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.
The newly redesigned note will be available from Tuesday through Bangladesh Bank as well as commercial banks across the country.
In a press statement, the central bank said the note has been printed under its new series titled “Historical and Archaeological Architecture of Bangladesh”.
The Tk 10 note, signed by Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur, has entered circulation for the first time.
DESIGN AND SECURITY FEATURES
The banknote measures 123mm by 60mm and carries a predominantly pink colour scheme.
On the front, the left side displays an image of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Dhaka. The background includes the national flower, the water lily, shown in bloom with leaves and buds. The reverse side features Graffiti-2024, depicting scenes from the July Uprising.
The note includes a Royal Bengal Tiger watermark, along with a bright electrotype watermark of “10” and the monogram of Bangladesh Bank.
A 2mm-wide security thread has been embedded on the left side of the note, engraved with the words “10 Ten Taka,” which becomes visible when held up to the light.
The thread also shifts colour from red to green when tilted.
A printed pattern to the right of the governor’s signature appears under light, while “BANGLADESH BANK” is printed in microtext on both the front and back as an added security measure.
EXISTING NOTES REMAIN VALID
Bangladesh Bank said all existing paper notes and coins will continue to remain in circulation alongside the newly introduced design.
To meet the growing interest of currency collectors, the central bank has also printed a Tk 10 specimen note, which is not exchangeable.
Collectors can purchase it at a fixed price from the Bangladesh Bank Taka Museum.
GRADUAL REPLACEMENT OF BANKNOTES UNDERWAY
The redesigned Tk 10 note is part of a broader initiative by Bangladesh Bank to introduce a new series of banknotes under the “Historical and Archaeological Architecture of Bangladesh” theme.
Under the plan, all existing notes will be gradually replaced with redesigned versions across denominations, including Tk 1000, Tk 500, Tk 200, Tk 100, Tk 50, Tk 20, Tk 10, Tk 5 and Tk 2.
The central bank has already released newly designed notes of Tk 1,000, Tk 500, Tk 100, Tk 50 and Tk 20 into the market.
