Woman’s body found in Kurigram with its throat slit

Police have recovered the body of a housewife whose throat had been slit from Kurigram’s Nageshwari Upazila.

The body was recovered from Ganirchar village in Narayanpur Union around 8pm on Wednesday, said union council Chairman Mostafizur Rahman.

The victim, 26-year-old Shahida Begum, was the wife of local resident Azizul Islam and the mother of two children.

Chairman Mostafizur said Azizul runs a tea stall at the nearby Kalarchar Bazar. “On Wednesday night, he was at the shop with his elder daughter, while Shahida and their two-and-a-half-year-old child were at home.

“Around 8pm, neighbours rushed to the house after hearing the sound of someone moaning. They later found Shahida’s body lying near the tubewell with her throat slit. Her younger child was sleeping at the time,” he said.

Narayanpur Union council Member Kabirul Islam said there were brutal cuts on her throat and hands. “The tubewell area and the house are surrounded by tin fencing. There is no easy escape route, which suggests the killer may have been someone known to the family,” he said.

Kachakata Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sohel Rana said the body had been sent to the morgue after recovery. Preparations are under way to file a case over the incident.
