There has been no improvement in the condition of 9-year-old Huzaifa Afnan, who was hit by gunfire from across the Myanmar border in Teknaf.

She is still on life support in the ICU at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Huzaifa is the daughter of Jashim Uddin, a resident of Whykong Union near the border. She had gone to buy breakfast with her grandfather on Sunday morning when she was injured by a bullet from across the border. She was brought from Teknaf to Chattogram that afternoon by her uncle Shawkat Ali.

Doctors conducted an operation on Huzaifa on Sunday night. However, her condition has not improved since then.

Dr Harunur Rashid, chief of the ICU Department at CMCH, said that although the child was taken into surgery, the bullet could not be removed from her brain as it was inside the brain.

She remains in critical condition and on life support, he said.
