Sharif Osman bin Hadi, convenor of Inqilab Moncho and a potential independent candidate for Dhaka-8, who remains in critical condition after being shot in the head earlier in the day in Dhaka, made enemies by publishing anti-Indian write-ups, according to his sister Masuma Begum.
Hadi wrote for Bangladesh, Masuma said, sharing her fear that India “won’t let Hadi live”.
Hadi has been shifted from Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) to Evercare Hospital.

Masuma left their ancestral home in Jhakalathi’s Nalchity for Dhaka soon after receiving news of the attack on her brother.
“Patriots cannot live in this country. India won’t let him live,” said Masuma.
“He writes against India; he writes for Bangladesh,” she said before leaving.
Hadi is the kind of patriot who is always ready to sacrifice his life for the country, Masuma told journalists.
She said "Hadi has no shortage of enemies since the country is filled with thousands of operatives of RAW and Awami League activists".
“This country did not let Ziaur Rahman live either,” she added.
Hadi came under attack immediately after Jummah prayer on the Box Culvert Road in Dhaka’s Bijaynagar.
In November, Hadi wrote on his Facebook page that he had received phone calls and messages from at least 30 domestic and foreign numbers threatening to kill him, burn down his home, and rape his mother, sister, and wife.
In that post, he alleged that “killer” Awami League supporters were keeping him under constant watch. Despite “fears for his life,” he said, he would not back away from the “struggle for justice.”
Hadi was a frontline fighter in the July Uprising that toppled the Awami League government.
Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and some members of her cabinet are currently living in India.
Hadi is a complete patriot, said his brother-in-law Monir Hossain.
“A fear lurked in our heart that a moment like this might come. He spoke against fascism and irregularities in Bangladesh,” he said.
